Tidbinbilla Open Day

The annual Tidbinbilla Open Day is on again this year on Sunday 29 September 2019 from 10:00am – 3:00pm in a relaxed family friendly atmosphere with free entry to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.

Join MC ‘Tim the Yowie Man’ for a fun-filled day of nature-based experiences, kid’s activities, live music, displays, demonstrations and more - held in the greatest venue of all, the great outdoors!

The theme this year is ‘Explore, Relax, Recharge’ where we encourage you to explore the Reserve with renewed curiosity and a focus on the many benefits that can be gained from spending a day immersed in nature and culture.

Embrace the opportunity to engage in many forms of nature-based activities or just take some time out to have a deep breath of fresh air, sit back and enjoy the festivities.

Open Day is also naming day for our newest little female koala. Come down to Eucalypt Forest or ACT Parks and Conservation Stall at Sheedys and vote on a number of possible names. Voting is only open for one day so come along to make your vote count!

Come along to the historic 1895 Rock Valley Homestead. Bring a picnic lunch and a rug and enjoy the atmosphere of this beautiful rural setting. Join in the games and craft activities from the era and dabble in a bit of poetry and song.

Wander around the homestead, meet descendants of the original pioneer farming families and hear about what life was like in the Tidbinbilla Valley in the 1890’s. See (and smell) our working model eucalyptus oil distillery in action and hear about the diversity of farming and small-scale industries that sustained a vibrant community during last century. Activities will be running from 10am – 2pm.

Sanctuary Wetlands: 10:00am – 2:00pm

Want to see strange and amazing animals up close in the wetlands? Join in with Waterwatch Coordinators to see what lurks below the water in the Sanctuary Wetlands! Turn up anytime to try and catch some bugs and learn about their important role in the ecosystem.

Our Visitor Assist Volunteers will also be around throughout the Sanctuary and Eucalypt Forest to point out the latest sightings of all the critters – if you are lucky you might even see a platypus or koala yourself!
